Guided tours

Guided tours, group or educational visits at Portico can be accommodated at any time if booked ahead. Please contact us for further details.

Guided tours

In the summer season (May to September inclusive) guided tours are available, without appointment, on Tuesdays at 2pm, Thursdays at 11am and Sundays at 2pm. The tour lasts approximately one hour after which you are welcome to explore the building, its displays, the organ or our digital tablets at your leisure.

The tours tell the fascinating history of the building’s architecture and restoration as well as encompassing exhibitions on local history and on the history of western Christian church music. The organ loft displays explore the inner workings of the instrument and the history of the organ over the last two millennia. You also have the opportunity to play on the stunning new organ console – or let the organ give you a recital all on its own.
If groups have an interest in a particular aspect of Portico and its displays these can be explored in greater depth by prior arrangement.

Guided tours cost £5 per person. Guided tours are also available by appointment throughout the year although please note that a minimum of 10 people ( or fee of £50) applies.
By prior arrangement we can provide catering ranging from a cup of tea and a biscuit through to sandwiches, scones and cakes.
