NewQuay Singers

The NewQuay Singers and friends performing for the BBC's Broadcast Service in May 2016

This is Portico’s Community Choir. Made up of members from Portaferry and further afield, it practices on Wednesday evenings. The choice of music is largely liturgical and we normally perform in Portico, particularly at the local church services, though our membership is drawn from all religious denominations and is of all ages.

The repertoire includes pieces by Stanford, Parry, Tavener, Mendelssohn, Bruckner, Handel and many others. We have sung Faure’s Requiem in St Patrick’s Cathedral, Armagh and, by invitation, choral evensong in St George’s Parish Church, Belfast and St John’s, Malone.

In 2014 we staged a sell-out production of Handel’s Acis and Galatea. In 2016 we performed for HRH The Prince of Wales at the opening of Portico and later in the year were recorded by Radio Ulster for the Broadcast Service.
