In memory of the late David McElderry, who built Portico’s magnificent organ, and with the support of the ACNI and ANDBC, Portico has commissioned 10 chorale preludes for organ from 10 of Ulster’s leading musicians.
During this event, Dr Joe McKee will pay tribute to the enormous contribution that David McElderry made to the world of organ building and music.
This event will be delivered both as a livestream and an in person event. To be crystal clear, that means if you buy a ticket it can be used to either come in person or to watch the event live via our YouTube channel. Nearer the time of the concert we will send ticket holders a link to provide access to the YouTube event.
The diverse range of ten composers include Scott Flanigan, Deirdre Gribben, Philip Hammond, Linley Hamilton, Piers Hellawell, Ruth McGinley, Michael McHale, Una Monaghan, Matthew Owens and (pictured) Stevie Scullion. Each prelude will be introduced by its composer before either Matthew Owens (Director of Music at St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast) or Simon Johnston gives it its first public airing. This will be a wonderful opportunity to meet the composers and hear the story of their compositions.
Simon Johnston, Master of Music at Westminster Cathedral and music editor for the series, has also composed a prelude.
Please note that this event will be filmed live for livestreaming. Buy a ticket in the usual way and you will have the option to watch live via youtube or attend in person.
If you have bought a ticket for Portico Preludes on Sat 4 December then you qualify for a half price ticket for the Simon Johnson organ recital on Friday 3 December. Please note that for both events you can either attend in person or watch from home via our YouTube channel. Everyone who buys a ticket will be sent a link to watch the shows shortly before the concerts.
