WRETCHES: Revolutions, Rights & Wrongs - from the early days of women’s suffrage to the present. A unique, original musical work commemorating 100 years since women in Belfast gained the right to vote, featuring choir, string quartet, poetry & more.

Maria McManus (Poet) is the author of Available Light (Arlen House, 2018), We are Bone (2013)The Cello Suites(2009) and Reading the Dog (2006) (Lagan Press). She has collaborated extensively with others producing performance pieces for choir (18, with composer Keith Acheson) dance (TURF and DUST with Eileen McClory) and multi-art form collaborations such as Splendid. Liberal. Lofty. with composer Simon Waters and artist Helen Sharp.   She is Artistic Director and curator of Poetry Jukebox, an on-street audio installation of contemporary poetry.

Music by Keith Acheson

Keith Acheson (Composer)was awarded a PhD in Composition from the Ulster University in 2002 studying under Dr David Morris. He has also studied with the late James Wilson, Martijn Padding, Kalevi Aho and Ake Pamerud. Along with many pieces for choir, he has had work performed by the Ulster Orchestra, Gemini Ensemble, Arco String Quartet, HuuJ Ensemble, Philippa Davies, Anne-Marie O’Farrell and Brian Keenan. He is currently the Choirmaster and Conductor of the Sing For Life, Belfast Health and Social Care Trust (BHSCT), Crescendo and the Cancer Fund For Children’s ‘Care Free’ choirs and the BHSCT Staff Orchestra, and works as an arts facilitator for Arts Care.
