Is there a bar?
No. But we always have a raffle and with every raffle ticket you get a complimentary glass of wine, gin and tonic or beer or two soft drinks. Make sure you bring cash though as we don’t accept plastic. (There’s a cash machine 2 mins away in The Square.)
Can we bring our own booze?
No. Portico is a charity. The money we make from selling raffle tickets helps to pay our overheads. Maintaining a grade A listed venue and running 50 events a year is not cheap!
Can seats be reserved?
Generally, no. Seating is first come first served. However, we are happy to reserve seating up to 24 hours in advance of events for anyone with access needs. Is it still a church?
Yes and no! The non-denominational charity ‘Portico of Ards’ owns the building and runs Portico.
The Portaferry Presbyterian congregation, who used to own the church, are now effectively tenants, paying rent to use the church on Sunday mornings.
Is there free parking?
Yes, lots! There’s two car parks either side of Meetinghouse Lane, adjacent to Portico. For busy events we overflow into the Community Centre car parks on Steel Dickson Avenue (also adjacent to Portico).
Are tickets available ‘on the door’?
Yes, usually. But not if a gig is sold out! Check the website to see if something is sold out before you come.
What’s the refunds policy?
Event tickets are fully refundable up to 24 hours before the event starts. Email [email protected] if you need help.
What Covid restrictions are there?
As of March 2022, all Covid-related restrictions in live performance venues have been lifted. Wearing a mask or not wearing a mask is up to you. Please respect everyone’s choice.
